Samaritan's Table

Mission Statement

Based on Luke 10:27-37 (Good Samaritan Parable) and Acts 2:42-47 (Fellowship)…

Showing mercy in loving our neighbor as our self through women connecting to make and distribute healthy and budget friendly meals for their family, Buffalo Covenant Church families in need, and community families in need.

“ ...they broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God...” Acts 2:46

Monthly Meal Assembly

About three weeks before assembly day, we will publish the menu options for you to choose from, and you will pre-pay at the time you sign-up. Meal Costs: Main Dish $10.00, Side Dishes $5.00, and Desserts $5.00. Most meals have serving sizes for 8-10, which roughly comes out to about $1.88 per serving (for main & side dish combo). These costs cover all the ingredients and supplies; therefore, this is a non-profit effort as our ministry to you is doing the shopping and certain prep work.

We will meet once a month on a Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to Noon in the Church Kitchen and Youth Room to assemble the meals. Bring a cooler/laundry basket to use in carrying your meals home. Aprons are optional, but a fun addition. Connecting through conversation, we will work together rotating through the stations of orientation, prep work, assembling meals for you and those in need, and washing dishes. You can tweak recipes based on your needs (ex. Like it hot? Add more spice. Don’t eat onions? Leave them out.). You will be “fed” a treat, fun cooking/food tips, and a Bible verse based on the theme of the month.

“ ‘...love your neighbor as yourself…’ ”
Leviticus 19:18 and Luke 10:27

Showing Mercy Opportunities

Showing mercy can be done in a variety of ways through Samaritan's Table. To fund meals for those in need, we intentionally decided not to incorporate a specified dollar amount in the cost of the meals. Instead, we believe this is an opportunity for you to choose how and when you will give. You choose from the heart and be obedient to the Lord Jesus' leading.

Some Ways to Serve Include...

    • Purchase an extra  main, side, and/or dessert to make and then leave it in the church freezer or keep at your home for us to call on you when the need arises
    • Give monetary gift that we can pool with other donations to make meals
    • Offer your freezer for us to store food in
    • Offer to defrost, cook, and/or deliver a meal to a church or community family
    • Let us know when a church or community family is in need (birth of a baby, home from the hospital, illness, death in the family, job loss, etc.)
    • Monetarily sponsor a family by letting them select the meals; either letting them make the dishes, you do and deliver dishes, or make dishes together
    • Give a main, side, and/or dessert designated for your family to a church or community family in need
    • Invite a church or community family to join you for a meal at your dinning table

God is amazing and he will give you the creativity to answer the statement: I will show mercy by…

“In reply Jesus said…‘Which of these three [in the parable] do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?’... ‘The one who had mercy on him.’ Jesus told him, ‘Go and do likewise.’ ” Luke 10:29-30, 36-37

Looking Ahead

In addition to the monthly assembly there are a few opportunities we hope to incorporate as this ministry moves forward…

    • Quarterly open up meal assembly for others to participate (ex. kids and/or spouse/single fathers)
    • Occasional workshops (ex. how to can pickles)
    • Have a garden or farm? Can we help put your abundant yield to use? Herbs, produce, grains, meat, eggs, etc. Donate and/or we are willing to pay a fair price.
    • Have students who need to do a service project help assemble meals for church or community families in need
    • Have shopping and/or cooking tips we could use?
    • Have extra used and in good condition knives, measuring spoons/cups, etc. that you could donate?

If you would be interested and willing to contribute in any of the above ways, please call the Church Office (763-682-1470) and talk to Liz Johnson or Dana Lyver to discuss this in more detail!
